  • The hub will be outfitted with the key essential equipment and services needed to conduct impactful climate tech research. BATWorks is actively seeking sponsors for equipment, instrumentation, lab and prototyping services, software, and everything in between.

  • At BATWorks, LACI is focused on providing a commercialization platform that aligns partners, funders, and founders to accelerate both cleantech commercialization and market adoption. LACI at BATWorks welcomes Incubation funders and partners who can support startups in New York City through a hands-on, pilots-forward program with access to Executives in Residence (EIR) network, business support services, capital access offerings across both equity and debt and funded pilots. LACI partners with organizations whose work complements the mission and commitment to   building an inclusive green economy.

    LACI’s efforts at BATWorks build on its track record of helping  540 portfolio companies raise over $1.5 billion in funding, generating  $477 million in revenue, and creating  more than 3000 jobs, with a long term economic impact of more than $733 million.

  • Item descriptionLACI at BATWorks welcomes funders and partners who can support workforce programs in New York City  that empower participants to prepare and  succeed in green career pathways. LACI’s equity-enhancing workforce program provides participants with hands-on technical training, industry-recognized certifications, career coaching, and paid internships with startups and partner organizations.

    Since launching in 2019, LACI’s Green Jobs Workforce Development Program has graduated more than 670 participants across 24 cohorts. Approximately 75% of participants have secured paid internships or well-paying jobs (starting wages of at least $20/hour), or pursued post-secondary education opportunities At BATWorks, training programs will span technical fellowships such as electric vehicle (EV) charger maintenance, microgrid operations, and building energy management systems, as well as business and project management training.. LACI is seeking sponsors who want to develop New York City’s green talent pipeline across building decarbonization, renewable energy and transportation.

  • LACI’s City Climate Innovation Challenge (CCIC) supports cohorts of cities, including NYC, to implement demonstration projects tailored to each city’s transportation, energy, or sustainability needs. In partnership with NYC, pilots deploy at locations that include BATWorks. LACI pairs those projects with policy developments that build a market for innovative technologies and business models that reduce pollution and improve quality of life for city residents. At BATWorks, LACI is looking for CCIC Partners who want to support the integration of cleantech innovation in New York City and see that impact scale in cities across the country.

  • Through BATWorks, LACI is expanding access to capital for climate tech founders in New York City’s growing green economy. Through the LACI Cleantech Debt Fund, LACI at BATWorks has deployed $600,000 across three loans—including to Brooklyn-based companies—helping startups scale solutions, grow their businesses, and create local jobs.

     The LACI Cleantech Debt Fund (LCDF) proves that early-stage climate startups can responsibly access debt—helping founders scale without excessive dilution. Through a nationally sourced, vetted pipeline and a tailored underwriting approach, LCDF has maintained a default rate below 5% while serving companies traditional lenders often cannot. LACI is now capitalizing a $10M revolving debt fund to expand financing of up to $1M per company. Join us as a mission-aligned funder to capitalize the next generation of climate innovation in NYC:

BATWorks will feature sector-specific specialty spaces and programs that will be designed around high-potential climate verticals and specific system challenges that require unique infrastructure. BATWorks anticipates establishing 3-5 specializations, each of which may manifest through a mix of specialized labs and technical facilities, testbeds, events series, industry programming, and commercialization pathways. We are looking for organizations who, through Anchor tenancy, would like to support making BATWorks the global hub for:

Blue Highways & Maritime Decarbonization

Creating a leading global hub for maritime transportation and logistics by building scalable urban logistics testbeds that connect ports, waterways, vessels, and last-mile delivery.

Next Generation Batteries & Energy Storage

Bridging the gap between pilots and deployment by enabling collaboration among technology developers, utilities, regulators, and capital providers to explore how energy storage systems can be safely scaled in dense urban environments.

Leverage the Brooklyn Army Terminal’s large industrial campus to advance circular materials and innovative construction methods that reduce cost, waste, and embodied carbon (including a focus on accelerating affordable housing delivery in NYC).

Water, Wastewater & Sewers

Leveraging BATWorks’ unique waterfront location and proximity to critical wastewater infrastructure to help cities and utilities explore, pilot, and de-risk technologies addressing water, waste, and sewer systems

Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC), a global leader in developing and operating innovation campuses, will manage BATWorks’ day-to-day operations and facilities and design workspace and laboratory environments, along with programming that supports innovation and attracts startups. CIC will manage Anchor Partnerships and Lab Sponsorships.

At BATWorks, the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) unlocks innovation by helping climate tech startups scale and strengthens community impact through workforce training, pilot programs, and transformative  policy initiatives. LACI will manage program sponsorships focused on startup Incubation, workforce development as well as to expand their City Climate Innovation Challenge and the Cleantech Debt Fund in NYC. LACI will also lead on programs associated with Anchor Tenants focused on developing a sector specialization at BATWorks.
