Climate Innovation Hub
Backed by more than $116M in City capital investment, BATWorks will consist of 129,000 SF of world-class facilities - a dynamic hub for climate innovation, startup incubation, and green workforce development. Opening in 2029, the permanent hub will feature a LEED Gold, adaptive reuse fit out, bringing climate tech companies and New York City’s emerging green workforce under one roof to test bold ideas and scale solutions to tackle the effects of climate change.
A Dedicated Hub for Entrepreneurs and Industry
Managed by CIC & LACI, BATWorks is where climate tech companies will find the space, network, and incubation support they need to push big ideas out of the lab and into the real world. The forthcoming incubation programming will include business support services for startups with an emphasis on supporting underrepresented founders.
The hub will provide entrepreneurs the infrastructure and ecosystem they need to test and build solutions in sectors such as zero emissions logistics, blue highways and maritime decarbonization, next generation batteries and energy storage, construction innovation, building decarbonization, and water, wastewater, and sewers.
The facility will pair specialized infrastructure requested by climate tech startups with shared spaces for the innovation ecosystem, Sunset Park community, and New Yorkers at large.

NYC’s Largest Green Workforce Training Facility
The Green job training facility at BATWorks will feature 30,000 SF space comprised classrooms, labs, and of gathering spaces and designed for hands-on training, making it New York City’s largest dedicated green workforce training facility.
Led by LACI, LACI at BATWorks’ workforce programming will combine industry-informed training, employer connections, jobs & internships placement with startups, and wraparound support to help New Yorkers with a special focus on Sunset Park community build the skills needed to access career pathways in green economy sectors.
Training will be offered to New Yorkers in in-demand green economy skillsets including:
Electric vehicle (EV) charger maintenance
Microgrid operations
Building energy management systems
Business and project management training
Through a unique train-the-trainer model, LACI will develop and validate curriculum and equip local workforce partners to deliver training directly to participants, grounding instruction in community-based expertise. Workforce partners will include Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow, Southwest Brooklyn Industrial Development Corporation, Brooklyn Workforce Innovations, Solar One, CUNY, and ChargerHelp/SmarterHelp.
